Parents advised reading before viewing the film as some scenes may contain scenes unsuitable for younger viewers.
Sex & Nudity: Married couple kisses.
Violence & Gore: Extensive and prolonged sequences of sci-fi/fantasy/supernatural/horror action violence with added yellow blood detail visible. Various depictions of dismemberment and characters putting axes in creatures' mouths and moving them around.
The creature's arm frequently grabs people, bites them then rips them into pieces or grabs them and throws them around the place. No actual closeups of injury but it is disturbing.
Profanity: There is profanity; however, it is all during combat.
Multiple uses of "shit" especially in one sequence where a character abbreviates it 39 times. The film also features a brief use of "fuck" and uses of "damn".
Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: A soldier is briefly drinking in a bar.
Frightening/Intense Scenes: The looks and actions of the aliens may be frightening to younger viewers.
Story: The world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrives from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future, mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is a high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.
Likes: After watching the trailer, it does give off the vibe of the flaw in the time travel especially when you're fighting for the human race extinction in 30 years time concept, the trailer does make the film look bad. After watching the film fully I like the way they explain this and in the right ways as well that has nothing to do with time travel itself, it something that explains the concept of this which is something I was hoping they did & I'm glad they did because it would have left the audience hows this concept was gonna work.
Yes, the concept of time travel has been used before in other films, & ya there are just a few moments where the film is flawed especial when it comes to military combat when you fighting something, it when this film true kicks in you're left wondering what they are facing that is about to wipe out the entire planet!
Then the concept of what is wipe out the planet is shown, you're jaw hit the floor, it just the fact they swarm the enemy in droves of enemies, just looking at the creature design and look just one is lethal on it own as they are fast, intelligent and highly lethal at a distance. It's at this point you get it how easy the earth extinction-level is about to happen.
Despite the few flaws, this film gives one hell of an intense, frightening situation and one hell of a good film that worth watching. The creature design was actually pretty badass, & put the xenomorphs to shame, while the film is intense there are very well time comedic moments especial from Sam Richardson who plays Charlie, his reaction in the stairwell had me laughing my ass off even though it wasn't a funny moment, there are few over comedic moments special from JK Simmons.
Betty Gilpin performance playing a family woman with her daughter Ryan Kiera Armstrong playing Young Muri Forester both give great performance, with Chris Pratt the main star of the film, who not really much of an action star, playing a man that's had two tours in Iraq bring what this film so needed, a family man willing to lay down his life to protect and save his family.
I was not expecting this film to be so damn good, despite the flaws this is actually well done that gives the vibes of Aliens & the thing, with overwhelming hordes that you can see why the human race has no chance of winning.
Dislikes The thing with the Flaw in the military they are throwing thousands of people to fight, yet the time travel spot isn't accurate to the point which isn't the flaw that is actually accurate, it was more of the fact the people going to fight these things, should have been shown the weak points of the creature because intelligence in every fight is the keypoint to knowing the enemy and victory.
There was one moment toward the end which I can really explain you just have to watch it.
Overall: Intense, frightening, Damn entertaining, great performance for a slightly flawed film
Rating: 5 out of 5 for Entertainment / 9 out of 10 for the concept.
