Parents advised reading before viewing a film as some scene may contain scenes unsuitable for younger viewers.

Sex & Nudity: A long scene features a female humanoid alien in multiple costumes performing an exotic, fully clothed, dance for a man. She mentions that she has basically been an imprisoned prostitute since childhood. An alien race is mostly nude and females breasts are barely covered and males are nude including nipples except for a loincloth. The females appear to have no nipples (it is non-explicit and non-sexual). Character visits a "pleasure" zone where he is propositioned by different women (not graphic). Character alludes to wanting to be more intimate with another character.

Violence & Gore: Multiple battles and shoot out scenes.

A planet is destroyed, and its population decimated, as collateral damage between two warring fleets.

A female alien is killed. Her backstory is tragic.

Aliens head is blown off leaving green goo, another alien is killed, a piece of him slides off and reveals yellow goo.

Valerian has a scratched up arm for much of the movie (not graphic)

A man is punched in the face repeatedly

Profanity:  Two uses of "ass" and one use of "shit."

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: Various unspecified drinks are consumed throughout the movie. No one is shown to be drunk.

Frightening/Intense Scenes: Nothing really fighting for the younger viewer but for some scene maybe not be suitable.

Story: VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS is the new adventure film from Luc Besson, the director of The Professional, The Fifth Element and Lucy, based on the comic book series which inspired a generation of artists, writers and filmmakers. In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha-an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the centre of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

Likes: Based of the French science fiction action-adventure comic book "Valerian and Laureline" director Luc Besson has been waiting to make this film for a long time but is it really good or just complete trash.

I'll be honest its a watchable film from start to finish with its impressive visual effects, with a mixture of "Starwars", "Fifth Element", "Hell-boy" and "Men in Black" feel rolled into one film with great alien designs with immersive worlds giving a great sci-fi feel.

What this film does great which I liked at the begin is if you had some sort of galactic government formed we would meet the species from across the galaxy's with greetings points, like two presidents shaking hands, which this film does a great with giving a scene of diplomacy.

One thing I did love was the soldier cyborgs design, they looked like Anubis soldiers in a cybernetic form that was pretty cool design, but sadly this is the only thing that brilliant about the film as this film did feel miscast with a lot of other flaws, visual effect alone is 10 out of 10 but the rest of the film sadly was flat.

Dislikes : Three main reason this film is almost drag down to the point its unwatchable:

  • One) Subtitles - where we're the subtitle for the aliens speaking in their own language, this completely takes the audience out of the film; special when you have no idea what they are talking about when communicating to each other.

  • Two) Story itself - Although the visual effect is stunning a film need a great story to carry itself along, sadly this film is weak on it story alone. It's ok for you into story's that are weak and complete watered down because that your type of thing, but this is why this film has flopped in the states because of its lacklustre of a story that lacking in concept with no epic ending.

  • Three) Miscasting - god dam this film is so horrible is casting this is an understatement, no offence to  Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne who played the main lead characters of this film but they just had no on-screen chemistry and did not fit these characters what so ever.

This was one of the main problems this film had which were its casting seriously god awful casting choices, I mean Dane DeHaan is a great actor but hasn't had enough time to home his acting skill he more suited to the psychological thriller movie.

To play this role he was complete wrote in the wrong as he just didn't come off as what he's supposed to be portrayed on screen and with no charisma as well it just takes out the character out of the film.

It like someone said this would have been better role for Will Smith to play at least it would have been entertaining, sadly it the same with Cara ya she was slightly better in suicide squad by is a supermodel that really cant act, this role should have gone to Margot Robbie with these two I would have at least carried this film and been better.

Overall: Visual stunning, Great alien designs and galaxy designs, weak on story and poor casting choices.

Rating: 4.2 out of 5 for entertainment / 6.2 out of 10 for the story.
