Likes: I went into this film not knowing what to expect, other than it being another reboot. Unfortunately, viewing the film this is not a great start to a monster universe; if I'm honest, Dracula Untold had a better impact than this film.
Not to say this film was a complete disaster, as there are few moments that are enjoyable to watch, especially nods to the original The Mummy and Easter eggs showing that other monsters have been in this universe.
The acting and performances of the film are pretty good and some of the special effects are great with a few action scenes; but, sadly, this is all I can really say that’s good, which is a shame for its cast because Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis, and Sofia Boutella did great with what they were given.
Dislikes: Where did this film go wrong? Well, to start with, too many cooks in the kitchen, so to speak; six writers on this film is why this film lacks the impact that it needed, as it seems to be confused on which direction it was meant to be going.
The other problems this film has is the lack of story- which is very mediocre for this level of casting- which is a shame as the film could've actually been better done; I feel that this is due to too many writers with too many story scripts. It's why I feel this film might actually fail at the box office.
Most of the other problems is the film feels too short with the lack of impact in the story. It gives the feeling of rushed script writing and a rushed story, which is what actually bring this film down. It could've of been done in a way to make it a lot darker and more frightening, but it feels very light for a monster film.
Sadly, the film is watchable, but not a great start for a monster universe. I feel it needs something better from this universe to start off, as this film is, sadly, not up to standards of starting a universe off.
I feel this is going flop at the box office.
Question for those that have seen this film: Do you feel the same way as I did watch it, that this could've been better; or do you think this was a great film and can't wait for the next film?
Overall: Not a great start to the monster universe, very mediocre, but watchable.
Rating: 4.1 out of 5 for Entertainment / 6.7 out of 10
