Story: Ray Breslin manages an elite team of security specialists trained in the art of breaking people out of the world's most impenetrable prisons. When his most trusted operative, Shu Ren, is kidnapped and disappears inside the most elaborate prison ever built entirely computerized and constantly changing shape, Ray must track him down with the help of some of his former friends.
Likes: I'l be honest here this film wasn't bad but it wasn't great for a sequel, the trailer for this film does sell this film as a pretty badass film but fall so badly short of the mark it's unreal. The first film we see Stallone's character break out of prison with a clever escape plan by working out the guard rotation and build layouts, only this time he facing a technological prison unground called hades where the inmate are forced to fight for the privilege's.
Although most of the film is ok with some pretty good acting from Dave Bautista being a badass and return of Sylvester Stallone being the usual escape artist, the story does lack in areas with a lot of flaws. Which is a shame since the first film wasn't that bad. I do feel if this film is to hit cinemas, it might flop with the way it has been done, it feels like they made the same mistake as fortress did with it the sequel. Sadly this is not a film I can recommend, it really is bad for the sequel should be a straight to DVD movie, it's a shame because the cast of this film this story and quality should have been given a 5-star treatment.
Dislikes: The two main biggest problems with this film is the writing and the fights scenes.
1. Fight scenes - This is something I find very amateurish when directors use the shaky camera, this film uses it a lot to the point you can't see any of the fight scenes as the camera is basically in your face. Especial with the gunfights as well, the whole film with a shaky camera to make it look dramatic just failed the film completely.
When you have a fight scene you need a wide angle shot with the camera a few feet away from the two fighting, this allows the audience to soak in the awesome martial art combat, but when you use the shaky camera this ruin the fight scene and ruins the audience enjoyment of the film.
2. Written - with the name hades this story should have had a better story, it does feel cheaply made with the poor CGI used. This should have been a maximum prison type film underground with serval levels with a high level of security systems, this would have been a better film. Especial with its cast as well which is a shame but what can do.
Overall: Ok sequel but the first film is better. great cast shame the story was a little weak.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 for Entertainment / 5.6 out of 10 for the sequel
