Story: Set in the small town of Devil's Gate, North Dakota, the film examines the disappearance of a local woman (Regan) and her young son. Schull plays an FBI agent who helps the local sheriff (Frakes) search for answers. Partnering with a deputy (Ashmore), they track down the missing woman's husband (Ventimiglia) and find that nothing is as it seems.
Likes: This is such an underrated film ya the film plot is pretty simple and easy to follow, but it does a great job at no exposing what going on until midway through the film, where the main plot of the film kicks in. What great is this film only using CGI for particle effects here which is great since the film clearly has a low budget, in some area, you can see the CGI but its still using costume design in other areas with the creatures.
Note: There are two films that have the same name but these are completely two different films.
What gives this film character is the creepy barn which is something you would see it as a slasher movie, which really set the tone for this film atmosphere especial when one of the main characters is hiding a dark secret.
This is the one thing that actually keeps this film interest and paying attention to the film as it not you're average sci-fi horror, it got it twist in the story the will keep the audience invested in the film, with a surprise ending which is worth watching until the end.
The acting is pretty solid this film as well, give a great performance and believable scene which sell the film story, the pacing is a lot better than the previous horror I watched as the pacing was way to slow, so im glad to see a horror film that has good pacing throughout the film.
There are a few shocking and gory moments that will keep the horror fan entertained, as ive said before it a slightly underrated movie that not a SyFy channel movie for once, so this may be a film you may love or hate depending on your taste the acting like I said is solid, the plot is good although a little simple but its fresh which is the main thing but slightly borrowing a classic sci-fi horror theme.
So yea I would recommend watching this film if you get the chance, it a great watchable film to sit back with popcorn and a beer with your partner or friends, there isn't a lot that I can say without giving away the story, all I can say it just give it a chance
Dislikes: Not much is a way this film could've been improved, other then there should've been a bit more frightening moments, but the film isn't bad.
Overall: Great Sci-fi horror, good twist in the story, solid acting. worth watching.
Rating: 5 out of 5 for Entertainment / 7.5 out of 10 for the concept.
