Story: After the extinction of the human race, an android called "Mother" is responsible to repopulate Earth using a collection of embryos stored in a base. Her teenage daughter is submitted to classes and tests to assess her development as a human being. When the daughter finds a mouse inside the base, she suspects that the outside is no longer contaminated. One day, she sees a wounded woman outside the base and let her in. Soon she will learn the news that will affect her relationship with her mother.
Likes: WOW this film was incredibly well written, well designed and visually stunning. The Lighting of the environment is beautifully done. Most of the review saying the film is bad I can understand because this film is a very complex film, you might find that the film reveals too much through the film of the actual plot but what people arnt seeing is this aint reveal any of the film actual plot if you not paying attention you will miss alot that is actually happen.
Especial with every intense moment throughout the film that leads to a twist that is well times and Brilliantly written, makes this one of the rare films that one of the best film ive seen in a long time.
Special rare from a Director Grant Sputore who this is his first Feature-length film since he's been doing short TV stuff was incredibly done with Cinematography that is outstanding and the sets and S/VFX were perfection.
The plot of the story is you have 3 main actors throughout the 115 min films length, that create a well-writen story that fills every minute with suspense and drama. Midway, you can't decide who the antagonist is. The plot twists are well placed and executed toward the end that gives you this combination theme like Ex Machina, I, Robot, Terminator and the matrix mix in with Iam mother story is just an incredible film to watch with a score that is absolutely perfect and well placed in moments throughout the film it complement the film emotions.
The casting is outstanding with Clara Rugaard who's performance was perfect and Hilary Swank nailed her role to confuse the viewer who to cheer for if you havent seen this film or you have seen this film you were confused by it I urge you to watch again and pay attention to the film detail (e.g. timestamps, embryos labels, even the Woman holding the cross, etc), and you will see the brilliance in the writing of this highly underrated film that worth watching.
With a little research on this film which made it even more incredible was the actual robot that plays mother isnt CGI, it a prop mechanic suit designed for Luke Hawker who is actually inside the suit which gives the audience the Illusion of a robot. Damn its incredible in the way he portrayed this role because on-screen the visual effect actually makes it look CGI but it's actually real. That's what's incredible with this film especial on a 5 million budget, with a human actor in the suit this gives this robot a frightening tone when it starts running, it looks so realistic you could hardly tell watching the film.
This is a film I can highly recommend watching, if you didnt get it the first time watch it again and pay attention to the detail you get what is a well direct and well-writen plot that's rare.
Dislikes: There are two moments in this film which kind of doesn't make sense and they are little mistakes in the film, but the film as a whole is amazing.
Overall: Incredibly Written story and plot twist, one of the rare films that are actually better than what Hollywood as produced, a must watch
Rating: 5 out of 5 for Entertainment / 10 out of 10 for Story and plot.
