Story: Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers) believes she is answering a calling to be the first female exorcist... but who, or what called her? In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, Ann seeks out a place at an exorcism school reopened by the Catholic Church. Until now these schools have only trained priests in the Rite of Exorcism - but a professor (Colin Salmon) recognizes Sister Ann's gifts and agrees to train her. Thrusting onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante (Christian Navarro), Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl, who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago. Determined to root out the evil, Ann soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her.
Likes: As Halloween is around Soon, I thought I would go check out The film Prey for the devil, but is it any good? Apart from elements in the film that I felt made the film Drag a little, I found that it gives some insight into Real demonology and possession to the audience while playing out a Psychological theme of Horror Revolving around one woman that has been haunted by the same demon for years.
As for the Details which are sadly true when it comes to possession, depends on how long they have been possessed Victim sadly during the Exorcism can die because the Demon take everything from the person. While most of the Time possession can happen from inviting something to control, others can happen from the Quiji board.
While this film does go into certain details about the Vatican having a different Department for Training Priest's how to do an exorcism the right way; in real life, the Vatican will deny this due to a certain incident in the 70s which was made into a film that you might know Exorcism of Emily Rose, the priest involved in the Exorcism was charged with Murder, but it wasn't his fault, as the victim was far too gone to be saved.
Prey to the Devil uses psychological elements; using the darkest and Eerie undertone which is why the Jump scare actually works Naturally to scare the hell out of the audience, Some of them go me as well. Along with this, I would go as far as to say that its perfect casting and well-acted give Believable characters throughout the film while fleshing out the main character having a backstory that is pretty Creepy in itself. There is a certain scene in the film involving an Ambulance that shocks the audience, with the tone and behaviour of the moment which I found a nice tone to creep you out.
It does live up to the hype surrounding this film as it has a nice touch of horror / and psychological, while there are some Flaws it's still a good film.
Dislike: The film has some pacing issues, Some predictable moments, the main issue really is the third act of the film was a little rush when it could've gone in a better direction.
Overall: Dark, psychological thriller, great demonology backstory
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 for entertainment / 7.6 out of 10 for the concept.
