Story: "Lost River" is a dark fairy tale about love, family and the fight for survival in the face of danger. In the virtually abandoned city of Lost River, Billy (Christina Hendricks), a single mother of two, is led into a macabre underworld in her quest to save her childhood home and hold her family together. Her teenage son Bones (Iain De Casestecker) discovers a mystery about the origins of Lost River that triggers his curiosity and sets into motion an unexpected journey that will test his limits and the limits of those he loves
Likes : Never seen or heard of this film before until now i kind of went in to this film with an open mind im surprised that this its a bad film, ya there are a few thing that could of made this better but this is not bad for Ryan Gosling first writing & directing film.
Its a weird film filmed in a noir style 80's feel concept with a very dark tone in places , almost saying it a horror but not quite , kind of in the style of video drome with scene of sick blood shows to keep the towns people entertain in a abandon city full of house that need to be pulled down.
Christina Hendricks beautiful as always play the moth of two trying to keep her home while other are being torn down , while she struggle to pay the rent she get suck in to macabre underworld where the entertainment is is torture porn to keep people entertain with displays of blood on stage. Her performance is brilliant showing a struggling mother trying to raise her kids.
Iain De Caestecker plays the older son of billy (christian Hendrick) Bones , who try's hiss best to help his mum, but gets him self in to trouble when he put himself in the cross hairs of a town psycho played by Matt Smith who has no remorse for thing , his play this pretty well.
Saoirse Ronan put in a brilliant performance young girl next door looking after her grandmother who befriends bones together they get caught up with bully (matt) it the event lead to unexpected journey that will test their limits and the limits of they loves. she play this brilliantly.
The film itself is haunting & disturbing in place although it does lack in somethings, this its a bad film to watch.
Dislikes : The film is good but lack the passion behind it, it shows in the film, but it not a bad effort from Ryan
Overall : Disturbing & haunting, noir style film good story just lack passion.
Rating: 4.3 out of 5 for entertainment / 6 out of 10 for concept.
