Story: Disney's animated classic takes on a new form, with a widened mythology and an all-star cast. A young prince, imprisoned in the form of a beast, can be freed only by true love. What may be his only opportunity arrives when he meets Belle, the only human girl to ever visit the castle since it was enchanted.
Likes : First of all after viewing this film I can't see anything in this film that would offend anyone in their religious beliefs; as this film was banned in "Russia", "China" and "Malaysia" over a controversial subject of a gay characters being in the film. It is pretty sad that this world has become so terribly PC, where you have to be a certain way to fit into society or you get rejected, which is pathetic. This rejection from the world is perfect shown in the film with Beast in certain moments.
Comparing this to its original animated film I can say "YES" it's good but, far from a perfectly adapted version, as there are a few flaws that doesn't make the film a disaster but just doesn't quite capture that magic the original film.
The visual effects of the film are brilliantly done, with the C.G.I of the characters. Which is actually what makes the characters of “Beauty and the Beast” fun to watch, as there are a few moments that are funny. The dance and music choreography is perfectly done, giving the live action feel of a musical film to the audience.
Although some of the original music is used in this film, there has been new elements of music added, which I'm not sure worked for the film but, what did you think of these moments? Did you like the new touches they’ve added, or should they have kept all of the original score?
Emma Watson playing Belle, the main character of the film did a great job with what she was giving, but I do feel like her character is slightly underwhelming on her screen.
Dan Stevens playing Beast really shined in this film, I can't help but feel he was give better screen writing, the fact he can sing well is actually a shock, never seen this guy sing before and he really played his role well.
Ewan McGregor (voice) of the candlestick Lumière, and Ian McKellen (voice) of the clock Cogsworth provide the comedy and musical number "Be Our Guest" sung by Ewan, who did a great job singing the original song from the animated film. Although, this moment is more flamboyant and bigger than the original, it did capture that original moment.
Luke Evans was brilliant with the musical moment and dance it was like watching something from the “Oliver” with the way the dance moves and singing in the bar. Josh Gad clearly playing one of the gay character in the film did add some comical moment.
A lot about this film is special; the beginning of the film was good at giving the background story of the Beast, giving the film a story to lead from which added a great intro to build on. There are moments in this film that does remind you of the old musicals, like “Oliver” which is well choreographed. Sadly isn't without its flaws.
Dislikes: One problem with “Beauty and the Beast” was Emma Watson’s character portrayal, her part was poorly written, and lackluster.
Here the main problem with the film it's with one music number "Beauty and the Beast"-- No offensive to Emma Thompson she is a great actress but, seriously she can't sing! The way she sung the song just completely drowned out the romantic moment, it just didn't have the same “tears in your eyes” moment as the way the original song was sung.
Personally this original song should have been kept and not had someone else sing it, this is what throw this film off slightly.
Overall : Brilliant choreography, good funny moments, Great characters, pretty average adaptation.
Rating: 5 out of 5 for Entertainment / 7 out of 10 for Disney adaptation
