Story: Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class.
Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father's global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he's truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can't understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.
Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad's last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn't
Likes: WOW finally a game adapted movie that breaks game adaptation curse, which wasn't perfect as areas of the film could've been better, but Tomb Raider is one of the best Game adaptions that finally give us a real tomb exploration.
Alicia Vikander is the new queen of Action films and I kid you not! Her performance throughout this film is nothing short of phenomenal, Critic saying she not pretty enough Seriously? she was such a perfect casting choice for Lara Croft with the way she is on screen with her brave daredevil attitude that Lara has makes her perfect for this role.
Alicia brings physical attributes in play this heroine who was famous for her agility and ability to run and jump through a whole lot of dangerous places like in the video game which Alicia bring in this film truly deserves the praise for being a new action star.
Especial the rest of the cast as well bring there own style to the film bring it to life, such brilliant casting here, with the villian of the film played by (Walton Goggins) Vogel an agent of Trinity, which damn this character was cold-hearted. Walton brings this attitude of a man desperate to get his job done and get off the island with a serious cold and vicious manner. Which make him a great villian for this story.
The special effect is brilliantly done in the tomb, give a real sense of a real tomb with traps deadly enough to kill, which is why this is a brilliant tomb raider film. Instead of going that mystical fantasy fiction style like the last tomb raider film where statues come to life, it use's a realism of real traps which could possibly be real if a tomb had these.
As for a 12A, this film did push that certification in parts especial the tomb scenes there was the moment that 12a cert was pushed to its limit, with two brutal scenes. The other things great about this movie is it takes a lot of inspiration from the new tomb raider game which is what makes this film stand out more than what has been done before.
The film itself is a bit of slow burner at the start which works for this character as it builds Lara character up as we get to know her in a normal life before the tomb exploration, This is something we haven't seen before outside of the game. Along with it soundtrack it really adds to the action and moments of this film.
When it comes to a Tomb Raider film we come to see a film like for it an adventure, Tombs and action which this film doesn't disappoint. The final act of the film im glad they didn't do that Raider of the lost ark thing, with some supernatural ending which im glad they keep it real, which is something I'm sure audience will appsheate. There are a few flaws well more nitpick where the film could've been better, but this is the best adaptation ive seen in a well, set up perfectly for a squeal
Dislikes: The Tomb scene for me personal felt a little short, I feel this could've been a little longer, but still satisfying.
Overall: Great use of realism, Brilliant casting, Alicia Vikander perfect casting as Lara, Broken the game adaptation curse
Rating: 5 out of 5 for Entertainment / 9.7 out of 10 for Game adaptation.
