Parents advised reading before viewing the film as some scene may contain scenes unsuitable for younger viewers.

Sex & Nudity:
  • Both foster parents and the eldest child comment on teenagers masturbating.
  • Brief mention of a child in the foster care system having been sexually abused by an adult in the past. Nothing showed on-screen.
  • Some teenage girls seen showing lots of skin and cleavage.
  • The parents go to the school asking about a man who has sent dick pics to their girl. Nothing is shown.
  • Few kissing.

Violence & Gore:
  • A character has several scenes of injury resulting in blood.

Profanity:
  • One use of "Fuck", ('Anyone who doesn't like it can fuck right off') around 20 or so "S-words;" a couple dozen damn/goddamns; various other profanities/blasphemies. Uses the fullest amount of profanity allowed in a PG-13 movie.
  • The movie pushes the PG-13 rating to its limits with profanity.

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking:
  • Ellie takes a bottle from the liquor cabinet and has a drink to cope with parenting frustrations.
  • Frequent mentions of drugs and drug abuse. Most often, the context is talking about children in the foster care system who were removed from drug-abusing parents. No drug usage is seen on-screen.

Frightening/Intense Scenes:
  • The fights and strained relationships among the foster parents and children are at times very intense.

Story: Married couple Pete and Ellie Wagner, feeling a void in the marriage, visit a foster care centre. Two social workers, Karen and Sharon, guide the hopeful parents on the steps to getting into becoming adoptive parents. The couples are brought to a fair where they have the chance to go up to kids that they are interested in adopting. Pete and Ellie walk by the teenagers, although Ellie shows hesitance over raising a teen, one of the teens, Lizzie, informs Ellie that they all know no one wants to adopt the teens.

Pete and Ellie talk to Karen and Sharon over potentially taking in Lizzie. The social workers inform the couple that Lizzie's mother is a drug addict who is currently in jail, and she set their home on fire because she left the crack pipe lit. It also turns out that Lizzie has two younger siblings, Juan and Lita.

Although this seems like more of a challenge for Pete and Ellie, they agree to meet the siblings. Pete and Ellie have Thanksgiving dinner with Ellie's family, where they all make comments about never having confidence in the Wagners adopting kids. Ellie has enough and decides that they will go through with the foster care to prove that they can be good parents.

Likes: Not a bad film showing a perfect example of how foster home's truly are and an example that foster kids iver end up bouncing from home to home, end up on drugs, prison or worst, which is why fostering a kid to a good home is so important in today's world.

The film is more drama than comedy although there is moment through the film your gonna laugh at, where other moments only those with families will understand just how hard it is sometimes to bring up teenage kids, ya you know what I mean. Sometimes it never easies being a parent which is shown perfectly in the film with great acting, despite what critic has said about this film, those critics are wrong with this film.

It's a heartfelt emotional story that tells a true story of a couple that adopted these children to give that a loving and happy life, judging by the film it wasn't easier for them but in the end become a family unit. It was amazing to see the lengths that a couple go through to protect their children even if they weren't they're biological parents which give a message that family is important no matter where there come from. And the fact that it was based on a true story made the film so much more meaningful which audience with family can relate to.

It, not just a film that families can understand, it stands on it own with the great comical moment, that makes this film worth watching, just beware that this film contains some strong family intense moments that will break you down in to tear. But all in all great film to watch with you're family.

Dislikes: Nothing wrong with this film.

Overall: Great emotional family film, great comical moment that will make you laugh.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for Entertainment / 9 out of 10 for the concept.
