Male rear nudity after character comes out of bathtub and a scene where. A clothed man lies on top of a clothed woman, rubbing himself against her and suggesting they get under the sheets together. A woman wearing a tight dress (revealing cleavage) goes to a hotel and finds a man wearing briefs and a short robe on a bed (we see his bare abdomen and bare chest); he lies on top of her and they kiss and the camera pans to the window at night where we see a faint reflection of the woman with her knees bent and the man still wearing briefs, thrusting as the scene ends.
Violence & Gore: none
Profanity: Mild to strong
Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: Alcohol and smoking is seen being drunk by main characters
Frightening/Intense Scenes: Official MPAA rating: R for language throughout and some sexuality/nudity.
Story: Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on a journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.
Likes : A can kind of see why no one can get invested into this film as the first act of the film doesnt really make you care for the character like it does with the second act of film , but the one thing this film does show is that if you get richer than wall street the vulture come circling.
I mean that in a way that everything you have put "blood" , "sweat" & "tear" into they just come along without working hard for it try to get a piece of the action. This is what is show in this film , Matthew McConaughey portraying Kenny Wells who was once a well off man working for his father mining companies who had everything under his father past away.
This is where thing clearly went down hill for Wells at this point , he tried to make a name for him self to get out of his father shadow. Judging by the film he almost lost everything until he stumble on a man that know the land and where gold is.
This is where this film because this twist an turns of betrayal , back stabbing and not learning who who is working against them , who's working with them. McConaugheys performance from his testosterone filled alcoholic concept in Reno to the sweat inducing hot tropics of Borneo , you get a feel for how integral McConaughey's acting is to the success and believablity of the narrative.
Although somewhat charismatic through his wittiness and general naivety to the overall project, Kenny Wells (Matthew) is a man who is out find gold. Wells' sidekick, geologist Michael Acosta (Edgar Ramirez), is bestowed with elements of morality and spirituality, clearly seen in his proactive interaction with the Indonesian people throughout the film.
Which bring Wells' financial determination combined with Acosta's endearing qualities and intelligence , make's the relationship such a strong focal point of the film which is good for what they are trying to portray on screen.
From what i gather is this is a story (very loosely) based on the true story of the Bre-X Mining scam during the Nineteen-nineties, in which a small Canadian mining company claimed to have found possibly the richest or second richest goldmine in the world, in the jungle of Kalimantan…at Busang, 360 km from the nearest airport in Samarinda and 1400 km from Jakarta. It's a story worthy of Joseph Conrad, and contains echoes of his book "Almayer's Folly", set in Malaysia.
This might not be everyone cup of tea when it comes to films but its not that bad , ya the film has a few moments where you thinking dam this guy just can catch a break or he being a complete jerk to Bryce Dallas Howard character Kay who put a brilliant performance although short screen time.
This isnt that bad , it watchable and intriguing to watch , that twist at the end was a good way to end the film.
Dislikes : I do feel that Bryce Dallas Howard was under used in this film , her character should have been given more than just a side character like she was just in the film as eye candy like just the girlfriend instead of a main character. I did think she could of been given a better role in the film if im honest.
Overall : Not Bad film, show what wall street is really like with money, show alot of corruption in the mining industry.
