Story: The second instalment of the "Fantastic Beasts" series set in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World featuring the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander.
Likes: Never really been a hardcore fan of harry potter films though some are ok to watch, I know there is a big fan base for these films. The first fantastic beasts and where to find them was great in story and direction, plus it had a good plot to get behind.
The visual's were great with the magic used throughout the films, giving us great magic and weird creatures like before, The acting is pretty solid but the story and plot or lack of plot really let the film down. Which sadly there isnt a lot of can say I like about this sequel as this feel more like a poorly executed film just to explain background instead of a plot-driven film.
Dislikes: While the visuals of the magical spells are good, it's clear that the filmmakers are so distracted by trying to build a franchise that they're forgetting to actually tell a good story with a good plot.
This is the biggest problem with this film, it feels more like a filler to explain the past of certain character to drive the film along, they've forgotten to add a plot to this film which adds a bigger confusing ending that leads to a third film.
The only "character development" was with one of our main heroes which felt random and completely out of character. we not given much reason or warning for this change which isnt great for a film because it confusing the audience on the story plot.
This coupled with Bad writing and a slow boring pace, I feel 2hrs and 14min was too long for a slow pace film, to be honest, the first film was better paced and engage the audience better than this sequel, this is due to no plot direction which is just really bad for this film, I feel if this film had a real direction and a good plot this would have been better. Sadly not a film I can recommend rushing out to see.
Overall: Good acting, Great visuals, just poorly written and no plot direction.
Rating: 4.3 out of 5 for Entertainment / 6 out of 10 for Story sequel
