Story: Eric and Kurt Sloane are the descendants of a well-known Venice, California-based family of martial artists. Kurt has always been in older brother, Eric's shadow, as he lacks the instincts needed to become a champion. Against Kurt's concerns, Eric accepts a paid offer and travels to Thailand to challenge the Muay Thai champion Tong Po and fails with dire consequences.
Kurt sets out for revenge. He trains with his brother's mentor, Durand, for a Muay Thai fight against the merciless champion, Tong Po. Durand first thinks Kurt is impossible to train, but through a series of spiritual exercises and tests, Durand discovers that Kurt has a deeper strength that will carry him through his final showdown with Tong Po.
Likes : Im not gonna say disappointed i was expecting better for a reboot , not to say this was a great film to watch it got it flaw's special in the story concept of this film. I like the fact they tried something fresh & new which is good because it doesn't copy what has been done before, although it does try to be different the story lack in certain area to get you really hype for a fight.
The film does however pay homage to the 80's kick boxer in someway Van damme being the trainer is a welcome addiction to the film does the trainer pretty well , Sara Malakul Lane absolutely gorgeous playing the somewhat love interest police office Liu which make this film interest would a love scene.
Georges St-Pierre a well know martial artist in MMA bring more to this film that he did in captain america winter soldier, with a few great fight scene , long with a few other well known martial artist T.J. Storm.
Darren Shahlavi is pretty good as Eric Sloane , Alain Moussi main star of this film was actually pretty good as kurt sloane showing off his skills as martial artist , not a bad actor as well , should be used in film's alot more. Dave Bautista was the perfect choice for tong po , he's got the right build & temperament for a world class undefeated tai kick-boxing fighter who on screen presence make this film good for the main film villain.
The fight choreography is brilliant with the fights, it was actually good to bring in real fighters as it make the film more realistic , sadly the story unperformed which is a shame.
Dislikes : Its a great film but could of been so much better, with it cast who ever wrote the scripted for the story concept need to improve on their story writing because as much as this was a good effort it sadly feel like a straight to dvd film instead of cinema realise. The casting was a great but the story is just badly written & poorly executed could of had a better build up to the main fight , all in all its a good film but not great reboot sadly i can see this film flopping in the cinema.
Overall : Good fights, brilliant casting just let down by the lack of story writing & concept.
Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment / 6.3 out of 10 for concept.
