Parents advised reading before viewing the film as some scenes may contain scenes unsuitable for younger viewers.

Sex & Nudity: There are visual references to implied one-night stands and mild verbal references to sex (e.g. "This is going to be so good for my sex life!" and a discussion between two people whether they've had sex with their love interests yet.)
It's indicated once that Kate is naked, though she's covered fully by a blanket.

Violence & Gore: None

Profanity:  Mild profanity

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: The main character is an alcoholic. This isn't glamorized, but she is shown drinking and, at one point, drunk.
The main character is an alcoholic -- she drinks on various occasions and is at one point drunk. This isn't glorified.

Frightening/Intense Scenes:  There is a hospital scene that does show a brief graphic scene but cut away before getting too graphic

Story: Kate is a young woman who subscribed to bad decisions. Working as an elf in a year-round Christmas store is not good for the wannabe singer. However, she meets Tom there. Her life takes a new turn. For Kate, it seems too good to be true

Likes: Not gonna Lie when it comes to Rom-coms they normally follow the usual fall into those trope traps where you have seen one, you have seen them all where someone down and out, falls for someone, falls in love and they live happily ever after at the end of the movie.

I'm pleasantly surprised by this movie when I got into it, which I never watched the trailer as the trailers tend to ruin a  film 9 out of 10 times, so I went into this with a fresh perspective, the film really hooked me into actually enjoying it.

The story is about  Kate/Katarina played amazingly by (Emilia Clarke) who British acting suit this style of movie perfect, she has the witty sarcastic humor which is actually funny which makes her a very good actress.
Her character is basically a woman trying to make something of her self went tragic event changes her life which changes her behavior to a very destructive one that affects everyone around her, that is until a mysterious man walks into her life playing brilliantly by Henry Golding who has great onscreen chemistry with Emilia, which end up giving the film a very heartfelt and warming moments throughout the film.

This is complemented with great acting from a well-known actress in the Chinese film industry (Michelle Yeoh) who plays Santa who owns a Christmas store, while some moments with Kate is funny there are moments in the film that could've been a little better done.

But this isnt just a film about rom-com, it basically an underline Love letter to wham and the late George Micheal (R.I.P) and a moment that affects Emilia Clarke's own life, which makes this film a very special type of film to watch.
While fair play to Emma Thompson who also stars in this film with great acting as alway, she actually wrote this script which surprisedly works for the most of the film, I have to give a hand with the mysterious twist in the film that I never saw coming, damn you made me cry with this heartfelt film.

While rom-com might not be your type of film this has just enough heart to keep you entertained while giving a message about your own personal life choices, so it one of those film that will be a hit or miss for the average viewer

Dislikes:
  • While the film is good the script does have a few flaws namely with the man that just enters the shop without no build-up, the whole romance feels forced here.

  • While the mysterious twist in the film gives a warm heartfelt storyline, it's just when the main story twist reveals itself it does kind of make the third act of the film fall a little flat.

  • The Political Brexit theme in the film felt a little out of place, felt like it was pushing the agenda a little too much, I feel this could have been taken out it wouldn't have affected the film at all.

Overall: Heartfelt Rom-com, good mysterious twist great acting,

Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment / 7.9 out of 10 for Rom-com
